THE MIDDLE SCOOP

                                                                                                             February 3, 2017

Dear Parents:

As January comes to a close, we have completed the annual LMS Geography Bee and Spelling Bee.  For the first time in Lebanon Middle School history, the same student won both bees.  Congratulations to eighth grader Ryan Tanski for his outstanding performance in both spelling and geography!  Ryan, a member of the Oak Team, has completed the written qualifying test for the Geography Bee and is waiting to hear if he will advance to the state bee in April at Keene State.  Ryan is automatically eligible to participate in the state level Spelling Bee.  We wish him the best of luck in these competitions.  Congratulations to our runner-up in the Geo Bee, Emma Cranage, and to Makayla Ippolito, the Spelling Bee runner-up.  Well done all!

We are approaching the end of our months-long project for Inspiring Kids.  Each of our five teams researched a variety of local non-profit organizations to find out how they helped our community.  After presenting their research, the students on each team then selected one non-profit for whom they would provide a service.  Pine Team is working with the CCBA;  Spruce Team is supporting LISTEN;  Oak Team chose David’s House; Maple Team is working for COVER, and Birch Team is helping Marley’s Doggie Bags.  During a whole school assembly on February 13, each team will present information on their non-profit.  Students will then vote on the non-profit that will receive a monetary donation in the name of Lebanon Middle School from the Inspiring Kids organization.  The winner will be announced during our Winter Carnival activities on Friday, February 17.  All teams can take pride in the work they are doing to help those in our community who need it most.  We can all be especially proud of our students and teachers who have worked so hard to make this project a success.  Stay tuned. . . . We will let you know who the winner is soon.  But truly everyone involved is a winner!

Our PTO is planning an author night at the end of February.

2nd trimester progress reports were mailed on Friday, January 27.  Grades for students who are on scholastic probation will be checked on Friday, February 10, for eligibility to continue participating in extracurricular activities.
